Salter Harris Fracture classification (in children):
- used in fractures affecting the growth plates in children
types:
- transverse fracture through growth plate
- fracture through growth plate & metaphysis (section before bone forms into the shaft)
- fracture through growth plate & epiphysis (bone head)
- fracture through all 3 areas
- compression deformity
- there is a neumonic to remember this, SALTeR = Slipped, Above, Lower, Through & Reduced
- N.B. the dark line in the diagram = the growth plate
